Brouwerij Rodenbach has its roots in 19th century Belgium: It was in 1821 when the brewery opened its gates in Roeslare for the first time. Since then, much has changed, but not the way beer is being brewed at Rodenbach's. In 1878, they started filling their beers in barrels for maturation where they develop their very specific and rather surprising taste. Brewing beer and maturing it that way is a very typical method in West Flanders. It has its roots in the Flemish reddish-brown colored ale, a beer that is popular all over the world and that has been awarded multiple times already. The oak barrels used - some of them in operation for more than 150 years now – are certified today as industrial cultural heritage and can be visited on a tour of the brewery.
